New Research and Development center in Almeria (Spain)

Yuksel Seeds continues to strengthen its presence in Spain with the inauguration of its new Research and Development (R&D) Center in Almería (Spain).

The new center covers an area of approximately three hectares and houses more than 500 varieties within its facilities. In this space, the company will develop new lines of tomato, cucumber, pepper, and melon with the aim of offering products increasingly adapted to the needs of Spanish growers, incorporating new resistances, higher yields, and new commercial types that add greater value to the market.

This new R&D center adds to the 11 research centers operated by Yuksel Seeds worldwide, six of which are located in Türkiye, reinforcing the company’s strategic commitment to innovation and varietal development.

The inauguration brought together members of the international Yuksel Seeds team from Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Poland, Morocco, France, the Netherlands and Türkiye, as well as local authorities including the Mayor of Vícar, Antonio Bonilla Rodríguez, and the Councillor for Agriculture, Francisco Rodríguez Vargas. Clients, partners and suppliers from the sector were also in attendance.

The event was also attended by senior members of Yuksel Seeds’ global management team, including Ali Yüksel, Global Head of Breeding, and Gökhan Cengiz, Global Head of Sales and Marketing. They were joined by Hicham Abba, Head of Marketing and Area Sales Manager for the Americas, Western Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and Hasan Kurt, Area Manager for Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific.

For Francisco Sabio, Head of Yuksel Seeds Spain, “These new facilities are not just a physical space, but a reflection of our commitment to the sector, to our customers and to the future of horticulture — a commitment based on proximity, innovation and joint work.”

He also expressed his gratitude for the support and collaboration of the Vícar City Council from the very beginning, as well as to the Vícar Agricultural School, an institution with which Yuksel Seeds shares space and maintains a close relationship through a cooperation agreement for vocational students’ internships.

For his part, the Mayor of Vícar, Antonio Bonilla, welcomed Yuksel Seeds and thanked the company for choosing the municipality to open its new facilities dedicated to the research and development of new varieties. He also highlighted that Vícar is a privileged location for a center of this kind, thanks to its environment by the Mediterranean Sea.

With this inauguration, Yuksel Seeds reaffirms its commitment to Spain as a strategic market and a key location for the development of varieties adapted to Mediterranean growing conditions.
